Other Actions You Can Take Today to Fight Human Trafficking

Inspired by Benjamin Perrin’s presentation and campaign, Rachelle Pearce provides two great suggestions how to continue the fight against human trafficking.

1.    Upcoming Municipal Election

Contact your mayoral and City Councillor candidates and ask them what they will do if elected to fight human trafficking. For example, will they ensure licensing of massage parlours and other establishments requires appropriate due diligence and inspections? Will they commit to walk the streets of their ward/city and visit each and every business establishment?

Contact your school board trustee candidates and ask them what steps they will take to ensure our children are protected from traffickers. Ask them to commit to ensuring that the Canadian Centre for Child Protection educational materials are incorporated into the school curriculum.

Then follow up periodically with your elected representatives to ensure they are living up to their commitments. And remember that your contact with any unsuccessful candidates was not a waste of time – you may have helped to educate some new advocates!

2.    Ask booksellers to stop selling traffickers’ playbooks

Ask bookstores (online and offline) to stop selling books such as “The Pimp Game” (read an excerpt below).
