Last month, MP Joy Smith released a proposal for a national action plan to combat human trafficking. This followed the Royal Assent of her Private Members Bill C-268 in June, creating a new Criminal Code offence of trafficking in minors. In 2007, MP Smith’s motion calling for a national strategy to combat human trafficking was unanimously adopted by Parliament.

Professor Perrin has just released Invisible Chains: Canada’s Underground World of Human Trafficking, a book documenting three years of research on human trafficking in Canada. Hailed as a ‘Hero’ in the fight against modern day slavery by US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, Perrin has undertaken a national human trafficking public awareness campaign with the final event held on October 27, 2010 on Parliament Hill in Ottawa.
